The Seattle planning department DPD has released a CAM (Client Assistance Memo) on the new Seattle Backyard Cottage Ordinance. It’s a good summary of the basic requirements, exceptions and procedures for establishing a Backyard Cottage on a property in Seattle. For the complete details, you’d have to dig thru the codes or hire a professional to assess your situation to determine if your lot meets the requirements to establish a backyard cottage or legalize an existing one that may already be on your property.
